Canon should thank my sister big time! She has been recommending Canon to me when she learned I wanted to buy a new digicam.

My previous digicam was Sony. I’ve grown to love it and was already familiar with the features and usage. So one weekend when hubby and I were strolling inside the mall I saw this blue Sony digicam, I naturally liked it, blue being my favorite color. I didn’t buy it though.

When my sister knew about it, she discouraged me and as usual promoted Canon to me again. She found out using Photoshop that pictures taken with a Canon 4megapixel cam has a higher resolution at 120 dpi compared to other cameras which only have 72 dpi for relatively the same number of megapixels.

So last Saturday, when I decided to buy a new cam I asked hubby to look for a blue Canon camera. Hehehe He found some models but they were of lesser quality. He was a bit amused that I was choosing based on the color. Until he found the Canon PowerShot A640 whose features were far better than those compact size models. According to the review this camera is in close semblance to a SLR camera.

“The Canon Powershot A640 is a ten megapixel digital camera with a four times optical zoom lens. The main attraction of this camera is its range of features. These include fully manual exposure and also manual focusing. This makes the Powershot A640 closer in relation to a SLR camera than the shiny, pocket sized models that are so widely available.

This camera is well suited to anyone who is looking for a step up from a standard point and shoot model, but wants a smaller, more compact camera than the larger, bulkier models.”

Everything inside me was screaming “NOOOOOOOO!“ . First I don’t like the color – its available only in black. Second – it’s bulky and big! But since I trust my hubby’s and sister’s judgement I gave in and agreed that this model is the one – features and price-wise it was already a good buy.

We bought it on Saturday.. that night we played with it took some shots and everytime we experimented with it, we find it more and more worth the money we paid. It’s really a good cam! The shots were clear even if it was zoomed, even if it’s far. Here are two samples of the shots we took: Wordless Wednesday @ blueapron and Wordless Wednesday @ parenting. Nice eh?
