It’s this time of the year again when dry skin is prevalent! I don’t know about you but I always have problems with dry skin; chaffed lips, dry and paper-like skin which becomes itchy are starting to bother me. I’ve been scouring the internet lately for some solutions that might work for me.

Here are some of the tips to prevent dry skin from American Ostheopatic College of Dermatology:

1.Avoid using harsh soaps that dry the skin. Recommended soaps are Dove, Olay and Basis. Even better than soap are skin cleansers such as Cetaphil Lotion, Oilatum-AD and Aquanil.
2. Avoid vigorous use of a washcloth in cleansing. When toweling dry, do not rub the skin. Blot or pat dry so there is still some moisture left on the skin.
3. Each day when you take your bath or shower, try to use lukewarm water. Hot water dries out the skin. Try to limit your time to fifteen minutes or less in the bath or shower. Bathing should be done no more than once a day. If you bathe too frequently you will remove the natural oils from the skin causing dryness.

There are many tips available online that you and I can try and see what works best for us! Good luck!

Cosmetic surgery is gaining more popularity in China. Their own version of the US TV show “The Swan” called “Lovely Cinderella” has created an awareness and interest in cosmetic surgery among the Chinese. I’m used to people undergoing face lift, rhinoplasty, liposuction, breast enlargement or face surgery to beautify themselves. Years ago these surgeries were denied by women who underwent it especially celebrities. These days, they are vocal about undergoing these procedures. But I cringed in dismay at the thought of breaking bones in legs just to add few inches of height!

Quoting the article from Yahoo!:

Wang Junhong, a 37-year-old fashion retailer from Guangzhou in south China’s Guangdong province, collected elegant European trousers that she adored but couldn’t wear because she was only 5 feet 2 inches tall.

So she spent $9,700 to gain two inches in a procedure that involved breaking her legs, driving pins into the bone and gradually cranking the pins apart to lengthen the bones as they heal.

“The more I thought about doing it, the more I was convinced I had to do it,” said Wang, as she lay in a hospital bed in 2005, her legs encased in brutal-looking frames with spokes that jabbed through her legs.

Her treatment went smoothly, but Chinese media frequently report on bungles that result in deformity and infection. In November, the Health Ministry banned the procedure except for medical reasons.

What do you think are the complications especially in the future? I’m sure there will be after-effects of the surgery. It might not be immediate but when this lady grows old, it just might cause her problems. I don’t even want to think about it. It’s too gross for me. I admire her courage though, all in the name of beauty. Ach!!! How can be people be so vain?
